Fiber: The Forgotten Part of Nutrition

Nutrition is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. It’s the process of providing the body with the food and nutrients it needs to function properly. There are many distinct aspects of nutrition, including but not limited to, vitamins, minerals, water, and calories. A balanced diet is essential for good health.

Fiber:

Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that cannot be broken down and digested by the body. There are two types of fiber that are both beneficial. These are:

Soluble Fiber which absorbs water and slows down digestion helping the digestive system feel fuller longer and softens bowel excretions. Insoluble Fiber does not absorb water, but it provides waste to bulk up the bowel excretions to clear things out of the gut. You can get fiber from plant based foods such as legumes, fruits, vegetables, seeds or nuts.

Finding out How Much Fiber is Enough:

Nutritionists can help you figure out your daily optimum fiber intake. Alternatively, there are online calculators that will also help you find it as well. It is recommended that you eat 14 grams of fiber for every 1000 calories that is part of your daily intake.

Superfood Salmon: Health Benefits, Nutrition, and More

First off, what are “superfoods”? Super foods are defined as foods that have an exceptional amount of nutrient density. Having a good diet and eating habits is a key to living a healthy lifestyle and it helps in the long run for sure. Of course there are many out there, but if there’s one food that has been very popular right now, it would definitely have to be salmon.

Eating salmon has many benefits and it’s a go to for a lot of people. It’s pretty versatile and can go with a lot of different things. From sushi, to rice to pasta, you really can’t go wrong with it and it’s fairly simple to make in most recipes. It’s an excellent source of protein and is low in saturated fat. Salmon is also rich in other nutrients such as vitamin b12, potassium, iron and vitamin D to name a few. If you are a pescatarian, I would highly recommend you incorporate salmon into your diet. You wont regret it, you’ll thank yourself later.

My personal diet consists of mostly salmon. I eat other proteins like chicken and some red meats, but salmon has always been my go and needless to say, I don’t get tired of it.  Everyone has their favorites. Since I started my fitness journey about 2 years ago, I've cut out a lot of old habits and tried to increase my protein intake and eating. By changing my diet, it has made me feel much healthier overall. No matter if you strictly eat meat or are a vegetarian or vegan, if you aren’t eating right, you won’t see any progress, so it’s crucial that you watch what you eat!
